Standard for Sustainability
Many commercial projects focus on attaining some sort of sustainable benchmarks whether through USGBC, Architecture 2030, Well Building Standard, Sustainable SITES and the Living Building Challenge to name a few.
Recently the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) deployed the ANSI/TIA 4994 standard that establishes a benchmark for sustainable energy and materials practices as they relate to the design, specification, deployment, and operation of information technology (IT) and information communication technology (ICT) systems. This landmark Standard is applicable to both new retrofit low voltage IT and ICT systems.
As with any sustainable practice, the goal is to have a positive impact on the environment while also finding cost savings. The ANSI/TIA 4994 Standard looks at all phases of building design from master planning to implementation. It provides clear design guidelines to help achieve greater energy efficiency through efforts such as changing business practices or selecting more efficient equipment.
“This is a truly landmark standard that will encourage sustainable practices and technologies, and help builders deliver high tech performance at reduced costs” says TIA CEO Scott Belcher.
